With the sudden change in weather we have had over the last month, it’s time to start thinking about your car’s summer maintenance! The heat can be just as harsh on your vehicle as the cold winter weather was, so it is a good idea to give your car a good once-over following these suggestions.
With a little bit of prep work, you can help to keep your car running smoothly for all of your summer road trips and adventures.
- Check Your Oil – this should be a year round chore, but be especially sure to check on your engine’s oil before going on a long road trip this summer. In the summer months, your engine is more likely to overheat, so ensuring it has proper lubrication can be imperative to your car’s health.
- Check Other Fluids – all of the fluids in your car have an important job to do, and the heat of the summer can evaporate them more quickly than usual. Top off your fluids at the start of the summer, and be sure to keep an eye on them throughout the warm season.
- Inspect Your Tires – if you haven’t yet, swap out your winter tires for summer ones. Hot temperatures can cause tire pressures to increase so it is important to keep an eye on your pressures throughout the summer. Also check for wear and tear.
- Clean Your Car – keeping your car clean and waxed can help to save from repair costs down the road. Summer dirt and dust can scratch away at the top coat, and eventually lead to fading and peeling, which is both unsightly and can lead to further damage. When the paint peels from your car, it leaves it susceptible to rusting which can be costly to repair. It’s much easier and cheaper to simply give your car a quick wash throughout the summer.
All of these tips are simple and quick to do – and will help to keep your car safe and functional throughout the summer months, so that you can go enjoy a road trip in the summer sun!
